On Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bertram Elementary will hold its Fall Festival, which is a major fundraiser for the school. There will be fun for all ages including food and all sorts of games and activities. The fes- tival is held at the elementary pavilion and cafeteria. The money earned from the festi- val will go to purchase play- ground equipment and other needs for the children and teachers. Bertram Church of Christ will hold their annual Trunk or Treat festival on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the church grounds at West and Elm. Bertram's Main Street Halloween will be on Oct. 31. Bertram will shut down Vaughan St. to vehicular traf- fic between Lampasas and East Streets so that families and children can to trick-or- treat in safety. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes on 'til the candy runs out. Various busi- nesses and organizations will provide treats and activities, including a mini haunted house provided by Little Texans Childhood Development Center. Library News The upcoming free Lego Work Shop at the library is Saturday, Oct. 15. It is for children in grades Kindergarten through seventh. They will discover Engineering and Programming with Lego Educational Kits. The early class is full, but there are still spaces available in the 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. class. Mahomet Sings Mahomet Christian Church tabernacle will hold their final fall singing on Contributed Bertram Elementary Secretary Aline Heine was awarded with the Gem of Appreciation for the month of September. Principal Jennifer Simpson says, "There aren't enough words to express how thankful we are at Bertram Elementary for Aline Heine and all she does for the school. Aline is the heart and backbone of our campus...a true blessing". Others say, "Aline is the glue that holds us together. She constantly puts the staff and students above her own needs and extends love, compassion and support to every per- son fortunate enough to know her." New Business Cindy Whiteacre has opened her new cleaning busi- ness, Majestical Cleaning, which will include both home and commercial in Burnet County. For more information go to Little League Bertram Little League is seeking board members. Several positions have been vacated, plus the league needs new blood. Contributed The Gold Star Award is the highest honor earned by 4-H students and is given to two outstanding 4-H members per county per year. This year's Burnet county recipients, David Frost (left) and Shelble Denton are from the Bertram 4-H club and will attend the Gold Star Banquet in San Angelo later this month. Marcie Masterson Bridget and Will McCoy were feted with a Bertram Chamber of Commerce Ribbon-cut- ting last Monday, Oct. 10. Their business, Texas Pecan Cakes, is located in the foyer of the Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library. Although the bakery has only been open a little more than a month, it is doing a great business, both in-store and online. Be sure there is a minimum clearance of three (3) feet on all sides of the carts, including mailboxes, trees, cars etc. The trash and recycling carts also need to be placed three (3) feet apart from each other. This will allow the automated truck arm to safely reach the recycling cart and dump it into the recycling truck. in the event your regularly scheduled pickup day falls on a hohday, your garbage w, II be p,cked up one day late that week only.
