Former commissioner throws hat in county judge ring A former Bumet County commissioner announced his intention Tuesday to seek the Republican nomination in the March 2014 Primary Election for Burnet County Judge. Judge Donna Klaeger said earlier in the day she would not be seeing re-election to the post. James Oakley is a 5th gen- eration Texan from Burnet, graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Southwest Texas State University and spent 10 years in corporate communi- cations and public relations. He was elected in 1998 as a Burnet County Commis- sioner and served 2 terms. "I look forward to the'op- portunity to serve as Burnet County Judge. I feel that hav- ing been a County Commis- sioner for 8 years, my involve- ment with the legislature, serving on a statewide com- mission and working with all levels governments across Texas has prepared me for the role," Oakley said. "I respect what Judge K1- aeger has accomplished and hope to continue her efforts while working with the Com- missioners' Court and other elected officials to address the new and ever abundant is- sues that challenge our grow- James Oakley ing area." While in office, he was ap- pointed by Gov. George Bush in 2000 and remains on the Regional Review Committee for Community Development Block Grants from HUD host- ed by the Capitol Area Coun- cil of Governments. In 2003, he was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Advisory Committee on Rock Crushers and Quarries for the 79th leg- islative session. He has been involved with the Capitol Area Council of Governments, the Texas Col- orado River Floodplain Coali- tion, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and is currently the Vice-President of the Burnet County Repub- lican Club. Oakley has been employed since 2007 with GovDeals. com, a subsidiary of the pub- licly traded Liquidity Services, Inc. based in Washington, DC. He represents Texas for this division which is the nation's largest website utilized for the public auctioning of govern- mental surplus & seizure as- sets via the internet. His wife Julie is a CPA and is the Finance Director for the City of Horseshoe Bay. The Oakley's have a combined family of five children, live on Lake Travis in the Spicewood area and are members of Lake Hills Church in Bee Cave.
