Bumet, Texas Burnet Bulletin Wednesday, May 9, 2018 Page 5A in On April 24, Hill Country Memorial received its tenth consecutive "A" grade for. excellence ila patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national health care safety rating institution. Hill Country Memorial was one of 70 hospitals in Texas to receive an A in the spring 2018 reporting period. Fifty-six Texas hospitals received a B, 60 received a C, and 10 received a D. No Texas hospitals received an F grade. "When our community members come into the hospital, they are often already in a vulnerable physical state," said Emily Padula, HCM Chief Strategy Officer. "It is up to us to ensure we have all the processes in plaCe to make sure they receive the best and safest care. To receive a tenth 'A' grade means that we have consistently protected our community from harm at their most vulnerable times." Using publicly available data from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures to assign A through F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice each year. The grade reflects hospitals' performance on measures like hand hygiene, falls and infections. m p . Hill Country Memorial Patient Care Technician Valeria Herrera demonstrates hand-washing technique at one of the hospital's nursing stations. Thorough hand washing is one of the safety measures that helps prevent the spread of infection, "Most hospitals, unfortunately, do not get an A grade for safety, but we take the trust that our patients have in us very seriously," said Padula. "We are committed to pursuing an A rating every year and continuing to improve until every patient is safe from harm." Individuals can compare hospitals' safety grades at hospitalsafetygrade.org.
