Page8A Wednesday, February 10,2016 ELECTION S ***Comments were provided by the candidates and were edited for clarity and grammar. On the balloC for JP Wilson, candidate for Burnet County Sheriff Josh "J.P." Wilson is a candidate for Bumet Coun- ty Sheriff, As police chief of Granite Shoals for more than 13 years, he is the only can- didate running who has man- aged a community-based law enforcement agency, which includes developing officer protocols and procedures, sub- miring and managing fiscal budgets, recruiting and hiring patrol and senior-level officers and working directly with cit- izens to foster strong ties and trust with the police. In 2002, Wilson said he inherited a department that was the lowest paid, most under-equipped, and most under-trained department in Burnet County. Under his out- standing leadership, the Gran- ite Shoals Police Department is now one of the highest paid, best, equipped and best-trained /departments in the county. It has recently been recognized for Best Practices by the Texas Police Chief's Association - the first and only law enforce- ment agency in Bumet Coun- ty to receive this impressive accolade. Wilson is a working chief, frequently seen in uniform, patrolling neighborhoods, making traffic stops, and re- sponding to calls for service. If elected sheriff, he will con- tinue this practice as he be- lieves true leaders are people who are respongible for in- spiring and guiding a group of people on a path for a common cause whereas a boss is simply a person who is in charge of the work place. Wilson holds a Master Peace Officer Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). He is JP Wilson currently enrolled in the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College, a national- ly recognized police leadership program and will graduate in 2016. He is a fiscal conservative who respects the hard-working tax payers of Bumet County and knows how to squeeze the most out of limited budgets. His vision is to bring profes- sional, performance-driven law enforcement to the citizens of Burner County. 1,) What do you perceive to be the biggest challenges of Burner County Sheriff in the next few years? aging a department that needs tin require a Sheriff's office that more training, equipment and can rapidly adapt to any situa- technology.
